Hello Again, World!

Wow, it has been a long time since I’ve written anything in this blog! I have graduated with my Master of Arts in Education from the University of Phoenix and basically ignored this blog since.

Well, now I’m going to write more. 🙂

I am going to Boston for Campus Technology 2009 for the last week of July! I intend to use this blog to write about the workshops I attend, the vendors and poster exhibits I visit, and any thoughts that might arise from attending what looks to be a most excellent conference.

I also intend to keep it up after the conference… I might switch to a different blogging account to get a ‘fresh start’ for new ideas, but for now, I’m here. 🙂

Hidden Curriculum Presentation

This is a PDF of a powerpoint presentation on the hidden curriculum, the implicit education that surrounds and underlies our explicit curriculum. This is presented in the scenario of a high school that just recently received a technology grant and has implemented an integration program including both technology hardware, software, media library, high-speed Internet and so forth, but has also budgeted for a technology integration team of teacher/technologists to assist the classroom teachers with the integration process.

Issue Paper – Instructional Practice

The article I reviewed for this assignment examined the relationship between classroom use of technology, possession of the skills to make use of that technology effectively, and adoption of Constructivist instructional practices. The article I reviewed is “The Influence of Teacher’s Technology Use On Instructional Practices” (Rakes et al, 2006). The authors of this article made me think a great deal about priorities in regards to how technology is implemented, and the urgent need for proper training techniques and priorities for the educators that will work hands-on with technology.

Reflection Paper – School Accountability

The idea of school accountability is a logical one. It seems only right that schools should be held responsible for the education they provide the students under their charge. Much of the contention and controversy seems to arise when the topic turns to whom it is that does the accounting. From my readings, “accountability” seems more and more like a euphemism for “federal involvement in our schools” and rightly centers on the results of George Bush’s No Child Left Behind (NCLB) act. In this paper I will explore my thoughts on these topics.
